★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Very nice and quiet spot within walking distance from Osaki hachiman.
The exterior is rather small, but the garden (admission 300 yen) is magnificent. Come early (opens at 8) and you are very likely to have the whole place for yourself.
One or two hour visit, but must see in Sendai.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rinnoji (輪王寺, Rinnōji), lying to the north of Sendai's downtown, may first appear to be a somewhat unexceptional temple. However, beyond the main hall of the temple is a beautiful Japanese garden and pagoda that are well worth visiting.
The temple was founded in 1441 by Date Mochimune, a member of the Date clan that later controlled large parts of northern Japan in the Edo Period. Rinnoji is the family temple of the Date clan, and although it was not always located at its present spot in Sendai, it moved there together with the Date family in the early 1600s. All of the buildings have been recently restored to their original appearances.
Visitors enter Rinnoji's inner gardens via a paid, unmanned turn style, and once inside can walk along the various paths, admire the koi (carps), the three-storied pagoda and the well-tended trees, flowers and plants. There are also several benches for visitors to sit and relax as they take in the scenery.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Temple is non existent but no one cares about that the key is the garden which is a GEM! Also there's a big moomoo cow or horse upfront that emits the sounds of 1000 beasts. Also don't ring the big bell or they'll feed you to the demon monster. In all seriousness the garden is magnificent and well hidden so don't tell anyone ok ???

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Rinnoji Temple is a temple in north Sendai founded by the Date clan. At first, it appears rather unassuming. Follow the path to behind the temple and you will be treated to a gorgeous Japanese garden. I could definitely imagine this place being absolutely beautiful in the peak of every season, however, in early winter, it’s not quite as lovely as it could be with only a bit of snow on the grounds. I’ll have to come back again next time.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful temple - the surrounding area is stunning with stunning autumnal colours in November. The gardens are a delight - very serene and peaceful with lots of birds silently flying around. It costs 300 yen to enter the garden, and its well worth it. We went on a Monday morning and there were very few people there. The path leading to the temple is beautiful and there are little walkways off this path into a forested area with a pond and some unusual modern statues.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful temple with serenity and positive vibes continued thorough out the year!!!
Rinnoji (輪王寺, Rinnōji) is lying to the north of Sendai's downtown!
A big bell is rung on the evening of 31 December to prepare to welcome a new year with HAPPY VIBES!!!
Donguri and maple leaves are in plenty around AUTUMN (Do you know that donguri is bear’s favorite as it helps them in hibernation).
A beautiful Japanese garden is located at the backyard (entry to the garden needs 300 yen fees) ! Once inside you can walk along the various paths, admire the koi (carps), the three-storied pagoda and the well-tended trees, flowers and plants. There are also several benches for visitors to sit and relax as they take in the scenery.
In the three-storied pagoda is a seated statue of the Amida Buddha that is designated as a tangible cultural property by Sendai City. On the first and 15th of every month the doors to the statue are opened. The 7.8m-tall five-storied pagoda is made entirely of natural stone and beneath it are buried 2,600 heart sutras to memorialise the war dead.
Access: It’s 20-30 min drive from Sendai station. Parking is free in the temple premises.
TRAIN: From Sendai Station, take the JR Senzan Line to Kitayama Station (10 minutes, 200 yen). Rinnoji is a 10 minute walk to the southeast of the station.
Otherwise: 15 minutes by taxi from JR Sendai Station
15 minutes on foot from Kita-Sendai Station on the Namboku Subway Line
Opening hours: 8:00 to 17:00
Highly recommend
Cheers
