I went there on October 04, 2021. I heard that it will be temporarily closed due to flood damage this year, but I was impressed by the beautiful small red flowers in full bloom in the huge site. There are some traces of flood damage, but now is the best time to see it. I want to say a word to the person who takes the picture. I know you want to take the best shot, but don't go inside the off-limits fields and take pictures! Even if you take a beautiful picture, it's a shameful picture.

Surrounded by nature, it is located on the Ina plateau at an altitude of about 900 m, where you can see Mt. Senjogatake in the Central Alps and the Southern Alps in the distance. Every year from late September to early October, Shinshu University and a company jointly researched soba native to Himalayan, and improved the soba with red flowers to grow even in the Japanese climate. Red buckwheat flowers bloom all over the area.

Looking for a great autumn travel destination?? Aka Soba no Sato (Red Buckwheat Soba Village “赤そばの里”) is definitely one of the best places! The charming red buckwheat flowers create the stunning red ruby carpet on the vast field!

A pleasant surprise in this trip. Weather was not too kind as it was raining while we were there. But still could not stop thinking of how nice this place could be in a bright sunny day. That familar lovely Furano, Hokkaido feel had come all back. Highly recommend if you happen to be at Matsumoto during this part of the season.

I went on a stormy day. There's a couple of stalls/shops for food, lots of free parking. It's a short walk through along a wooded path before you get to a small field next to a stream. Continue further and you get to the wide open Vista. Even on an overcast wet day the field of akasoba was spectacular! This is one of the most unique things in Japan since the akasoba was imported from China and only grows in Nagano. You can buy soba dishes at the stalls. Nagano is famous for soba!
