We went here yesterday and the weather wasn’t too bad. It was snowy and -8° around 10am. The road conditions aren’t so bad either. It wasn’t crowded as expected and the village looks much more serene with less people but the shops were open. We ate at the restaurant on the foot of the hill before the shrine. The place in known for its naga negi soba so I tried that. The lady said you’re supposed to use that stick of leek as chopsticks to eat the noodles, which was fairly interesting and difficult. I ended up eating with my chopsticks anyway. We also tried the grilled salted river fish which is a famous food in villages near rivers. The best view of the village can be seen from the hill at the end of the main street. Most tourists go there so just follow where the people go. We bought a Japanese sake as souvenir(since we love sake). Also, the people are super friendly and are very much used to dealing with tourists from everywhere. I would have given this a five star if only it was easier to drive all the way there on winter season. But it was worth it because the village is most beautiful when it’s covered in snow. ❄️

Nice place to visit and walk around if you get around here. There are multiple traditional houses and shops. feels a bit commercially created place rather than traditional but still great place. You can have lunch, eat, buy souvenirs.

On this east northern Japan trip, we go to ouch-juku twice and very lucky to see the snow view in the second time. You can see very traditional house and village here. Just like a movie scene. We go there by rent car. Please beware the google directions will lead you through a mountain pathway, the road on the mountain is no people, so the road is snowy, slipping and dangerous. We suggest if you want to drive by yourself, don’t go through the mountain.

Apart from the atmosphere it provides, theres nothing much do here unless you are interested in touristy souvenirs. However, the Negi-soba( soba eaten with a stick of scallion) was a good experience.

Great place to visit for those who lives traditional things. The Soba noodles were tasty with yakizakana in a vintage environment. Lots of unique souvenirs to collect.

Experience old small village life in Japan. The traditional houses, smile of oba-chan, and chatting with neighbours, brings you to the feeling of peaceful old days. It's truly cozy, warm and calming. Try famous soba which you eat with scallion as kind of chopsticks! There are some yummy Japanese snacks including tochi-mochi and fried mochi (age-mochi. The area itself is not so big but there is a nice walk (about 10 mins) up to the hill (a great photo spot). Parking available at 500 JPY.

Lots of fun old fashioned Japanese snacks/street food to try! Lovely buildings, great place for a stroll. Shops are all located owned and run so they kind of set their own hours. Between 11am to 4pm is probably when most shops are open, but some may open sooner or later depending on the day.
