★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 交通機関の発達していない時代、生活物資の運搬を馬に依存していた人々が家族同様に扱っていた馬の安産祈願、無病息災を願い、死んだ馬の冥福を祈って祀った馬頭観音。
寛保元年（1741）には既にこの場所に馬頭観音像があったこと、かつてはかんのん坂に松の大木が立っており夏の暑い頃、人馬共に休息を取る場所でもあったと鴛鴨町誌(2004)に記載されています。
