★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 温泉薬師神社（おんせんくすしじんじゃ）
温泉薬師神社は、温泉の源泉を守る神社です。
温泉薬師神社の創建は江戸時代中期の宝暦年間（1751～1763）に江戸屋幸助によって開かれたと言われています。
四万温泉の山口地区、新湯地区、温泉口地区、日向見地区、桐の木地区には湯前神社としてそれぞれ薬師明神や薬師神社、薬師堂などが祭られています。
例祭には山車、屋台、御輿などが温泉街を練り歩きます。
境内には四万温泉の開発に功績があった江戸屋幸助の墓碑や宝篋印塔、幸助桜の石札、馬頭観音、品川弥二郎歌碑などが建立されています。
また、境内には石仏が多く神仏習合の名残が見られます。

その他にも四万温泉の開湯に関してはいくつか説があります。
そのうちの一つ、鬼退治で有名な平安時代中期の武将「源頼光」に仕えた頼光四天王の一人とされる「碓氷貞光」が、夢で「四万の病を治す霊泉を授けよう」と神託を受け、目覚めると湯が涌き出ていた、という話が伝わっています。

この辺りのスポットとしては、共同浴場のひとつ「河原の湯」や、「千と千尋の神隠し」のモデルとなった「積善館」があります。

Onsen Yakushi Shrine is a shrine that protects the source of hot springs.
It is said that the foundation of the Onsen Yakushi Shrine was opened by Kosuke Edoya during the Hōryō era (1751 to 1763) in the middle of the Edo period.
In Yamaguchi area, Shinyu area, Onsenguchi area, Hinami area, and Kirinoki area of Shima Onsen, Yakushi Myojin, Yakushi Shrine, Yakushido, etc. are celebrated as Yuzen Shrines.
At the annual festival, floats, stalls, and Mikoshi go around the hot spring town.
In the precincts, there are the tombstone of Kosuke Edoya, the treasure stamp tower, the stone tag of Kosuke cherry blossoms, the horse head Kannon, and the Yajiro Shinagawa poem monument.
In addition, there are many stone Buddhas in the precincts, and you can see the remnants of the Shintobutsu tradition.

There are also several theories regarding the opening of the Shima Onsen.
One of them, Sadamitsu Usui, who is considered to be one of the four Yoritsu Shitenno who served as "Yoriko Minamoto" in the middle of the Heian period, famous for exterminating demons, dreamed to "give a spirit spring to cure 40,000 diseases". It is said that the hot water was coming out when I woke up after receiving an oracle.
