★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful location in national forest with great snow and decent runs. Odd layout with lots of traversing or bus rides to travel to the rest of Shiga Kogen.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Seems to be the biggest ski resort in Japan ( if you include all connections). No line up no waiting for lifts. All difficulty available. Very wide trails available perfect for beginners.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Awesome lift-accessible 'basically in-bounds' backcountry with relatively little competition. The backcountry gates located on the side nearer to Yakebitai are fun and funnel you out into the terrain park which leads to the gondola.Walk over to the top gate located on the small traverse between Yakebitai and Okushiga for maximum pow. If you can find it, there is some mini backcountry in the Forest course that leads to the kids' forest in-bounds tree riding area.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ So this is more a review of the mountain area itself. Overall awesome area to go to when visiting Shiga Kogen for boarding/skiing. It's definitely worth the short walk from Gondola 1. Highly recommend taking glade runs as the powder in the trees was awesome. I also took a lesson from the international ski school at the resort and really got a lot from it.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ You can rent snowshoes for 1000 yen and walk through the forest where there’s a road covered in snow. It was a beautiful experience.
