石垣家は，青葉区上愛子字赤生木（あこうぎ）に所在し，代々村の組頭を務めていた旧家である。土蔵造の米蔵1棟が附指定されている。旧石垣家住宅は，木造平屋建，寄棟造の茅葺，桁行十二間，梁間六間で二座敷に田の字形の四間を続けた六間取りである。床の間にある部屋が二つあり，組頭の役宅という家格の高さを表わしている。建築年代については，近世中期以降の仙台地方の民家の特色である「ひうち梁」「二重ひうち梁」を用いて構造を安定させたり，一部土台を用いているなど新しい技法が見られるので，19世紀初め頃の建築と推定される。石垣家には天明3年（1783）から明治22年（1889）までの暦に備忘録的な書き込みをした「暦面裡書」がある。文政5年（1822）のところに「十二月十七日夜孫右衛門出火，漸蔵計残」とあり，現在の石垣家住宅がこの火災後の建築とすれば築後約200年となる。仙台市に寄贈され，平成6年(1994)に解体，平成17年に移築・復元がなされている。（大倉ふるさとセンター敷地内）

外観だけではなくて、実際に中に入って色々見ることができます。見られるものは写真をupしたようなものですが、畳の部屋でくつろぐこともできるようになっています。開放感があってくつろげる空間です。縁側で庭をぼんやり眺めたり、ゆっくりさせていただきました。昔の竈門や、時計、床の間の作りなど、勉強になること間違いなしです。管理されている方がかなり丁寧に清掃等してくれているようで、清潔感もあります。おすすめのスポットです。
