御神体は木彫の龍神像。
5月5日に蛇綱引き・汁掛け祭りが行われる。15メートルほどある蛇に見立てた綱を引き回し、集落の災いを祓う。

創建の詳細は不明です。蛇穴村では古くから竜神信仰があり、当社の南西に年中絶えることのない湧水が下流の村の灌漑用水として活用されてきたそうです。
当社はこの湧水の守り神として奉斎されたと伝えられています。
