Very calm and peaceful place. You will learn the interesting and sad history of Byakkotai.

Nice experience to visit, although if you can't read Japanese it will be difficult to get the full experience, so make sure to bring a Japanese speaking friend. The archery is fun, the staff were very nice and attentive, and there is a activity to paint a traditional Aizu cow.

Whole structures and all the display are good and all right but you will be disappointed when you are told that the original school existed near Aizu Castle and not in the mountainous forest half an hour away by car.

Worth a spare hour to walk around. Went on a Saturday and it was almost deserted Great fun doing archery too!

Very beautiful and serene. A very good peak intothe harsh history of Japanese samurai. Can be a bit inaccessible for non Japanese speakers but there are plaques and pamphlets in English even a subtitled introduction video. If you pass by worth a stop by! Entry is 500 yen per adult.

This place is a little ways away if you don't have a car, but it is a 20 minute walk or 5 minute cab from the hirota station. However, this place was well worth it. For less than $6 you can see a gorgeous array of traditional samurai buildings and the classes in which they received their education. This place also played a fairly important part in Tohoku's history, which made it all the more fun! Besides taking beautiful pictures, you can also shoot a traditional bow and arrow or make okiagarikoboushi, a traditional figure of Aizu.

This was a surprise. Must visit in Aizuwakamatsu or if you’re interested in samurai. The buildings are absolutely beautiful-typical Japanese architecture. You can try various experiences like archery, painting, etc. Note you have to take your shoes of at certain points.
