H	Helen Devereux on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After 7 trips to Japan I finally worked out Narita is more than just an airport you arrive at (or depart from), but a destination worthy of a day or two. A great way to finish your Japan vacation. Find a hotel either close to the airport or close to Narita station. The hotels have shuttle buses to ferry you from the station, to the airport, to the hotel and to the shopping outlets. The area near Narita station is amazing. Little winding streets filled with cafes, restaurants and locally hand-made goods (kimonos, crafts, noren [Japanese curtains hung in doorways], kitchen ware, soaps and much more). Keep wandering down the main street and you will find temples and gardens. Stunning. The outlets/mall is a great place to shop for last minute buys to fill voids in your suitcase or to sample some more great Japanese food, have your nails done, or simply shop until you drop. I recommend a full day in Narita. Half in the town and half at the outlets.

Every single set of JR and other rail staff were super kind and helpful. In my week in Japan I only found one Shinkansen train cancelled, due to a power failure, otherwise all of their trains ran exactly on time to the minute!
