周辺の地域は、東日本大震災の津波で甚大な被害を受けた。文化財としての価値はもちろんだが、海岸から近い高台と言う地形のために、津波襲来時の緊急時の避難場所として、鉄骨製の階段を作るなどして、歴史防災公園として生まれ変わった。階段には、明治以降の津波の高さが表示されていて、三陸の津波の歴史を深く考えさせられる。
天気が良い日には、階段下に車を止め、公園に登ればら広田漁港（泊。中澤浜。久保浜）が広く眺められる。
A park located near the Hirota fishing port at the tip of the Hirota Peninsula. Since ancient times, human bones have been discovered in addition to shell mounds, making it a nationally designated historic site.
The surrounding area was severely damaged by the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Not only is it valuable as a cultural property, but because of the terrain on the hill near the coast, it has been reborn as a historical disaster prevention park by building steel stairs as an emergency evacuation site in the event of a tsunami. The height of the tsunami since the Meiji era is displayed on the stairs, which makes us think deeply about the history of the Sanriku tsunami.
When the weather is nice, park your car under the stairs and climb the park to get a wide view of the Hirota fishing port (night, Nakazawahama, Kubohama).
