展望台の上よりも、震災の津波が大きかったことを目の辺りにすると、津波の恐ろしさがよくわかります。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 平成23(2011)年3月11日14時46分18.1秒に発生した東日本大震災により、福島県をはじめとする太平洋沿岸部を中心とした広域にわたり甚大な被害が生じました。この未曽有の大災害を受け国が地方公共団体と連携のもと、①東日本大震災による犠牲者への追悼と鎮魂②震災の記憶と教訓の後世への伝承③国内外に向けた復興に対する強い意志の発信の3点を目的に、復興の象徴となる『復興祈念公園』の整備が進められており、令和7(2025)年度の完成を目指しているここ『福島県復興祈念公園』は、令和3(2021)年1月4日(月)から見晴台など一部暫定利用を開始しています。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 浪江町と双葉町にまたがる整備中の公園で、見晴台が浪江町両竹地区に設置されました。公園の完成予定は令和７年度です。今秋に震災遺構の請戸小学校が一般公開されますが、北東方向に見る事ができます。
