Mori Shogunzuka Kofun National Historic Site - Chikuma

A front-rear burial mound on a small hill. It is the largest front and rear burial mound in Nagano prefecture. I parked my car at the Mori Shogun Tsuka Kofunkan or the parking lot of the Nagano Prefectural History Museum, and followed the route guidance to climb the slope to the Kofun, but it is about 1 km to the Kofun. I started climbing because I thought it was a walk, but the slope is pretty tough. There is a sign saying "Shortcut" on the way, so I used the shortcut, but the stairs are even steeper. If you use a shortcut, be prepared to climb. As I learned later, if you are not confident in your physical strength because there is a bus from the Kofunkan, we recommend that you go by bus and return slowly on foot. The view from the top that I had a hard time climbing is the best, and I can understand the reason why it is so tight. From the top of the tumulus, you can see the Northern Alps and the Shirouma Mountains. In spring, you can see the snow shape of Hakuba well. I saw horses, skiers and foals.

It is an old burial mound built in the 4th century, about 1650 years ago, on the ridge of Mt. Ariake in Chikuma City, Nagano Prefecture (formerly Koshoku City). It is a keyhole-shaped tumulus with a total length of about 100 m. It was higher than I expected and I was overwhelmed by its size. The current burial mound is said to have been accurately restored after the excavation was conducted. What kind of person was the king of the kingdom of Shinano who made such a tomb built? I don't think there is any loss in seeing this burial mound for people who are not interested in history.

It is a fairly large burial mound boasting a mound length of about 100 meters, but in the first place the rear circle is not circular but oval, and the front part is bent 20 degrees from the central axis, which is a dynamic distortion. I wonder if it is. " Since it was the first front-back burial mound in this region, it was probably a prototype. Because it was built by carving out the ridge of the mountain, it was affected by the terrain, which is why the central axis is bent. Well, when I climbed the mound, I found out why it was made here. "Oh, Chief Dono wanted this view." There is no doubt that he opened a wonderful view of Zenkojidaira and greatly satisfied his self-esteem as the ruler of this rich land. It takes 20 minutes to walk from the museum below, but I think it's well worth it (there are paid buses). And let us feel like a ruler. (smile)

After going to the Nagano Prefectural Museum of History, I climbed the Mori Shogun Tsuka Kofun next door. It was a light climb for about 20 minutes. The cityscape of Chikuma and the Northern Alps seen from the tumulus were the best views.
