★ ★ ★ ★ ★ アキシマクジラの出土地です。アキシマクジラは骨格全体が出てきた珍しい化石でした。1961年発掘され2018年新種として論文で発表されました。新種として発見されたアキシマクジラは昭島市のシンボルとして宣伝されています。この辺の地層にはまだ何か埋まっているのかもしれません。
It is the birthplace of Aximaczilla. Aximaczilla was a rare fossil with an entire skeleton. It was excavated in 1961 and published in a treatise as a new species in 2018. Aximac whale discovered as a new species is advertised as a symbol of Akishima city. Something may still be buried in the strata around here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 昭島駅または中神駅から多摩川までは南へ徒歩30分。八高線鉄橋の橋脚番号11の下流36メートルの地点で、1961年、クジラの化石が見つかった。
発掘には一週間を要し、全長16メートルがほぼ完全な形で掘り出された。現在のクジラと種類が異なることから、アキシマクジラと名付けられた。
現在、アキシマクジラの化石は一部アキシマエンシス（昭島市教養福祉総合センター）で展示されている他、群馬県立自然史博物館に収蔵されています。
A 30-minute walk south from Akishima Station or Nakagami Station to the Tama River. A fossil whale was found in 1961, 36 meters downstream of pier number 11 on the Hachiko Line railway bridge.
The excavation took a week, and the total length of 16 meters was almost completely excavated. It was named Akishima Whale because it is different from the current whale.
Currently, some fossils of Aximaczilla are exhibited at Aximaensis (Akishima City Liberal Arts and Welfare Center), and are also stored in the Gunma Museum of Natural History.
