A shrine with rocks derived from the prefecture name Iwate Prefecture There is a tourist parking lot in Iwate City nearby. Be careful of passing each other as you will enter a relatively narrow road.

Mitsuishi Shrine. Originally, one rock was divided into three by wind and rain. The weathering of the rocks is quite advanced, so I think it's best not to touch them when you go. The demon's handprint, which is said to be on the rock, is no longer known, but it is worth seeing because it is said to be the origin of Iwate from the handprint on the rock.

I visited on March 30, 2022. I think this will be the third time. Last time, I remember that the demon's handprint was faintly hazy, but this time I was in trouble because the position was not clear. It is said that it is the place where the prefecture name of Iwate prefecture and the place name of Kozukata came from. There is a small parking lot and toilet in the immediate vicinity of the shrine.

This is just a small shrine in a residential area, but worth a visit for history buffs and people interested in ancient legends. Next to the main hall stand three giant stones. They looked to me like an ancient grave where the dirt had washed away, but there's no capstone. A legend says that a god chained a demon to the stones, in which it left handprints. This is supposedly the origin of the prefecture name Iwate, which means 'stone hand'.

Small shrine, spent around 10mins to look around. found the handprints, em, wonder if demons share the same hand shape with us?

Very cute shrine in morioka near many other shrines and temples! It is easy to walk to and there is ample parking in nearby lots or shrines. Also, read the sign for some fun facts about the demon hand prints!
