★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 常陸国一之宮鹿島神宮奥参道を進み奥宮を左、結構な坂を降りた場所。
個人的にはこの鹿島神宮において、最も神秘性がある神域かもしれない。
古来、古霞ヶ浦的な内海・香取海の中にあるこの鹿島(香島)へ、参拝者は船により辿り着き、この池で禊をして参拝に挑んだそうで、古の時代はここが神宮の玄関的な場所だったのだろう。
南の崖から流れ出る湧き水によって、常に水温が一定の澄んだ水が供給される。
地形的にはこの場所を最底部にして、結構な丘陵地に鹿島神宮が座している形になる。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 鹿島神宮は見所がたくさんありますが、毎度足を止めて見入ってしまうのが実はここだったりします。
水上の鳥居では厳島神社より大きい日本一の水上鳥居、西の一之鳥居がありますが湧水の御手洗池に映る小さな鳥居を見ていると心が落ち着きます。禊の場であることもその一因なのかも。

天気も良く駐車場もたくさんの車が止まっていたので御手洗池にも沢山の人が集まっているかと思ったが鹿島神社自体が大きいということもあって、人が集中することなく撮影に集中することができた。とはいえ、人を構図に入れないとなるとＮＤフィルターでスローシャッターで撮影する必要はある。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 奥宮を左に進み階段を降りると雰囲気のある場所が現れます。池の水は濁っていると思いきや澄んでいて綺麗です。湧水は煮沸しないと飲めないと書いてありました。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 御手洗池から検索して行くと裏口からスタートする形になります。
大きな鳥居を潜るとよく画像で上げられている池の上にある鳥居が見えてきますが、他の方々の写真撮影が上手いせいで思っていた以上に小さい池でガッカリ感を覚えました。（個人の感想）
インスタ映えは間違えはないと思います。
また池のすぐ横に茶屋があり池を見ながら一服も味があり雰囲気を楽しむだけでもアリだと思います。
そこから階段を登り参道に入りますが、ジブリ感満載で散歩好きにはたまらない景色が楽しめるかと思いますが、土日等は人が多いと思うので半減はしそうですが、鹿を管理している檻があったりでそれなりに楽しめるかもしれません。
参道は直線1キロはないかな？の道なり奥に行くと表に出るので本殿や立派な門などがあり神社好きにはたまらないと思います。
施設はかなり綺麗にされており散歩コースとしては微妙な距離ではあるますが、見て楽しむには丁度良いと思いました。
