Absurdly good food in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Worth a three or four hour drive if you're anywhere near it. Make reservations in advance.

Unique place. The restaurant itself is interesting: huts with roofs overgrown with foliage and streams with watermills. The area around the resto and along the river is also beautiful. We had spring themed lunch sets and everything tasted fresh and light.

A restaurant tucked deep in forest with a hearthy surrounding. Excellent haute cuisine in some thatched-roof houses which have a really strong princess momonoke vibes. Surely will be back here when I visit Chizu again. PS: it is listed as bib gourmand in Michelin guide

This is what we call a hidden gem ! in the middle of Tottori's mountains, off the beaten path , having this small shops made of traditional japanese house. The athmosphere is stunning, mix of calm and exitation. People are very welcoming. One of the best places i visited in Japan. Stronlgy recommend for people in search of traditional japanese sensations.

To call this place a hidden jem is an understatement. This is the epitome of hipsters and uniqueness. Nested amongst the forest by a waterfall, this lovely restaurant houses the most organic ingredients used in the dishes. Run by a 72 year old lady who is ever-welcoming, this place shouts HOME more than any other restaurants I've been to. She was so hospitable, and her English is fluent because of her university experience. She is extremely mobile too considering the age! What I heard was that she will head out to the forest every morning to search for greens, which the greens that you will see in your dishes. I'm not sure about the legitimacy of this story, and I never got to ask her. However, she did share how she got into this business. This place itself is 'up in the mountains'. You will have to pay it a visit if you want to experience an otherworldly service and restaurant location. Take your time to explore the premises when you're here too! You'd probably been taken aback while being transported to the 50s, pun intended.

This place is absolutely incredible. It is situated in a beautiful series of shrines and run by a kind old lady. You dine in traditional tatami rooms and eat farm fresh everything including the rice and the miso. The owner greeted us personally. You have a great view of the chickens running around outside. A small hike in the nearby area to work off the generous and delicious meal is more than worthwhile.

A Gem and probably our favourite restaurant in Japan. Very interesting food and blissful location. Sitting in the traditional house around smokey fire, enjoying tea and homemade mochi (rice cake) with the sound of chickens and the nearby running river will be a memory we will keep a long time. The hospitality was amazing and we felt more like long lost family than customers. A true amazing experience!

Nestled deep in the forest and tucked into majestic mountains the one of a kind Mitaki-en should be on any travel itinerary. It combines the best Japan has to offer---tradition, great food, attention to detail, charm and some local roosters who delight all. I am a repeater and found the second visit as good as the first. Fall magic paired with a memorable seasonal lunch enjoyed with friends in a wooden farmhouse with the shoji screens looking out on drying persimmons and fall foliage = pure pleasure. Beyond the extraordinary service, food, and setting, the best part was sharing tea (for the second time) with the delightful and elegant owner who has run the Mitaki-en for decades. It's a must do, especially for those traveling in the Chugoku area.
