樋爪館は、平泉初代藤原清衡の四男清綱がここに派遣され、その子、太郎俊衡らが居を構えて周辺を支配したとされる。館跡は赤石小学校付近にあり、周辺に堀の跡や平泉と同時期の住居や井戸、倉庫などの跡が確認され、かわらけだどが出土している。箱清水という地名や松原という屋号などはこうした館の空間を想像させる。また、薬師堂(現薬師神社)や大荘厳寺、中島の観音堂んどがあったという。寺の跡にはその後供養のために建てられた古碑群が残されている(以上抜粋) 紫波商工会女性部創立40周年記念事業の助成で設置 平成20年12月 紫波町平泉関連史跡協議会
