★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 平成9年(1997年)、「測量の日」の6月3日、国土地理院により見附市が新潟県の地図を切り抜いてぶら下げた時の重心点とされた。
新潟県の「どまんなか」「へそ」ということで重心点であるここにモニュメントが建てられている。
そんなわけで市内には「へそ」という名称を使った「まちの駅 ネーブルみつけ」という市民交流センターや「パン・ド・ネイブル」というパン屋さんなどもあり、賑わいを見せている。
またその後これを記念して市内各飲食店約20店が「へそラーメン」というモノを発売！
そのへその中味は餃子の皮でひき肉や野菜、背脂などを巻いたもの。
ぜひ見附市の名物にと販売しているようだが、人気、知名度共いまひとつなのは残念である。
