参拝当日は秋祭りの真っ最中で、近所の方やちびっこ達で大賑わい。
奥多摩に抜ける国道411号線のすぐ脇にあって、地元の方々には大変親しまれているようでした。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 今は熊野神社だけが残っていますが、かつてはココに陣屋があったとの事で「森下陣屋跡」とも呼ばれています。
案内看板によると当地2.5万石を代官による支配がなされていたようです。(と言う事は青梅は天領だったと言う事ですね……?)
青梅街道は青梅宿を新宿方面から真っ直ぐに貫いていますがこの陣屋跡で直角に曲がり、奥多摩方面へ繋がっていきます。奥多摩の喉元として周辺を警備する役割もあったんだろうと思われます。
現存しているのは陣屋の社としていた熊野神社だけで、ひっそりと歴史を伝えています。

Ome Kaido runs straight through Ome-juku from the direction of Shinjuku, but it turns right at this Jinya site and leads to the direction of Okutama. It seems that there was also a role to guard the surroundings as the throat of Okutama.
Only Kumano Shrine, which was the company of Jinya, is still in existence, and it tells the history quietly.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ カシの木がでっかくてびっくりした。幹の太さは3.6m。高さは10m以上はありそう。この木は青梅市の天然記念物になっています。
I was surprised at the large oak tree. The trunk is 3.6m thick. The height is likely to be 10m or more. This tree has become a natural monument of Ome City.
