天正12年（1584）嘯山春虎和尚が麹町表四番町（現千代田区四番町）に草庵を結んで始まり、文禄2年（1593）に小田原万松院の格峰泰逸和尚を勧請して開山したといいます。明治42年当地へ移転しています。
