Going back in history In 466 BC, Mt. Chokai erupted and the mountain collapsed, and the flowing mountain flowed into the Sea of Japan, creating many small islands. After that, sandbars developed, and a lagoon was created inside, creating a terrain like a small island floating in the lagoon. The scenery of many small islands with pine trees spreading in the inland sea was called "Kujukushima, 88gata" and became a place of victory for the wind. In the middle of the Heian period, a Noin lawyer came to Kisakata. "The world has passed, but the ama ama Tomoya of the elephant lagoon is my inn." (Noin Houshi) The Noin Houshi sang this famous song, and he lived here for three years because he liked the scenery of the elephant lagoon. Saigyo visited Kisakata in the early Kamakura period. And the next song "Kisakata's cherry blossoms are sunk in the waves and go on the flowers." (Saigyo) Rowing a boat on the petals of cherry blossoms scattered on the surface of the elephant lagoon. And in the Edo period, it was Basho Matsuo who longed for Saigyo with Noin Houshi. I went to the islands by boat, and the first one I arrived at was Noinjima, where Noinjima had been retired for three years. Next, we visited an old cherry tree related to Saigyo. Basho described the scenery of Elephant Lagoon as resembling the image of a melancholy beauty. "Xi Shi Ganebu no Hana in Kisakata and Rain" (Matsuo Basho) I wrote. At that time, Kisakata was spread over Kujukushima and 88gata against the backdrop of Mt. Chokai, which has a calm base. Masumi Sugae, a traveler from the Edo period, said, "When spring comes, the shadows of white cherry blossoms will be moisturized and the shade of Midori Aomatsu will be dropped. It's especially great for Kaiko." Diary). However, the Kisakata earthquake struck in 1804, and Kisakata was uplifted and landed. It became the current scene where the former small islands were scattered while the paddy fields spread. Shiki Masaoka, who visited Kisakata in the Meiji era, lamented, "Kisakata does not look like it used to be, and the pine trees in Shiogoshi are awesome."

It seems that it was created by the collapse of Mt. Chokai and the uplift of the land. The interesting terrain gives you a spectacular view from the observatory. It would be nice to look more like Shima when the paddy fields are filled with water. In the summer, the rice ears were growing well, so I wasn't sure what it was at first.

Natural artificial garden ❓ Ki no Tomonori (Hyakunin Isshu poet) "Hikari no Dokeki Spring in a long time "The day is quiet and the heart is scattered" is not a waka poem with this motif, but it reminds me every time I touch the place name Kisakata. This is because I think that the scenery of Ezogata in the past was like a Japanese garden in Heian, and it was a place where Japanese poems would suit. It is said that the poets Basho Matsuo and Issa Kobayashi also visited, but it is a calm and scenic place with an artificial garden atmosphere despite the natural scenery. In the past, it was said that there were scattered islands floating on the water in shallow lakes, but the surrounding area became rice fields, and depending on how you look at it, it might be a place like dead mountain water (green mountain water?).

Exit the road station “Kigata Nemu no Oka” to the left and turn right at the first fork. Then run the route around the right while watching this view. And you can leave R7 naturally.

There is also "Kisakata Sanpomichi" where you can walk along the road traced by Basho Matsuo from near Kisakata Station, and you can take a walk through the streets of Kisakata.

Visited on 2021/05/04. About half of the rice fields were filled with water, so the scenery was pretty good. Looking for a spot that looks like an island.

It is said that Matsushima in the east and Kisakata in the west during the Edo period also visited Basho Matsuo and Issa Kobayashi. The islands floating in the paddy fields are reminiscent of Kisakata, which used to be the sea. It is a national monument and a natural monument. You can take a walk, but be careful not to disturb the work of farmers. You can park your car at Nemu no Oka, a nearby roadside station, Kisakata.

I thought it was an interesting terrain from the train But it will pass by soon I parked my car at the roadside station and enjoyed a long-awaited walk on foot. It was time to harvest, so I decided to set the scenery for farm work. I went around the maintained course There is no car in it (excluding agricultural work cars) You can walk with confidence Speaking of greed The rice planting season may have made you feel like visiting the islands.
