★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 十二神将は薬師如来に従い，それを信仰する人々の守護神である。また十二支との結びつきから昼夜十二時それぞれの刻の守護をつかさどり，さらに十二方それぞれの方位を守護するとも信じられている。甲冑を着けた武人の姿で表され，薬師如来像の周囲に配される。陸奥国分寺の木造十二神将立像は12躯全部がそろっており，頭上に子・丑などの十二支の獣を標識につけている。10躯は武人像であるが2躯は上半身裸形で，裳を着ける姿でつくられている。それぞれの表情は忿怒（ふんぬ），泣きなどと多彩である。十二支獣は後補であるが地方作として全体がよくまとまっている。近年まで陸奥国分寺薬師堂内に安置されていた。
 The twelve gods are the guardian deities of those who follow and believe in Yakushi Nyorai. It is also believed that from the connection with the zodiac, it controls the protection of each time at 12 o'clock day and night, and also protects each direction of the twelve directions. It is represented as a soldier wearing armor and is placed around the statue of Yakushi Nyorai. All 12 wooden statues of the 12 gods of Mutsu-Kokubunji are available, and the 12 beasts such as children and ox are attached to the signs above them. The 10th body is a samurai statue, but the 2nd body is a shirtless figure, and is made in the form of wearing a garment. Each facial expression is diverse, such as anger and crying. The zodiac beast is a supplement, but the whole is well organized as a local work. Until recently, it was enshrined in the Mutsu-Kokubunji Yakushido.
