★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Yatsura Shrine is located near the central part of Keihoku-cho. The shrine is built on uphill of this area. According to its legend, once upon a time there came a deity arrived in this area to see how things have developed in this region of Tamba. This deity went up on a mountain from which he could get an antire view of the region. That's when he noticed there is a wave in red color. It was his purpose to pioneer the land to make it more suitable for agriculture. Therefore, he opened the land by opening the ground of Hozukyo Valley to channel water into this region toward land of Kameyama and Sonobe in the north-west. Later on the water overflown in the region of Kuwata as well and creating red waves. So he decided to create agricultural lands around eight different port areas called Yatsu. For this plan a deity of Yatsu was happy to corporate. Later on he collected working hands from Wakasa region which is far north around Japan Sea. This is how the origin of this land was made. In this way the deity of this shrine has been worshiped for agricultural fortune and protection by the locals.
