戦国時代の越後国の大名。関東菅領。山内上杉家十六代当主。
越後守護・上杉家に仕える越後守護代・長尾為景の四男として生まれ、初名は長尾景虎。
内乱続きであった越後国を統一し、戦や政だけでなく、産業を振興して国を繁栄させた。他国から救援を要請されると秩序回復のために幾度となく出兵し、特に宿敵武田信玄との五回にわたる川中島の戦いはよく知られている。さらに足利将軍家からの要請を受けて上洛を試み、越後国から北陸路を西進して越中国・能登国・加賀国へ勢力を拡大したが四十八歳で志半ばで死去した。
Kenshin Uesugi (1530-1578)
Daimyo of Echigo province during the Warring States period. Kanto Kanrei. The 16th head of the Yamanouchi Uesugi family.
Born as the fourth son of Echigo Shugodai, Nagao Tamekage, who serves the Uesugi family, his first name is Nagao Kagetora.
It unified Echigo, which had been a series of civil wars, and promoted not only war and politics but also industry and prospered the country. When asked for help from another country, he sent troops many times to restore order, and in particular, the five battles of Kawanakajima with his nemesis Takeda Shingen are well known. Furthermore, at the request of the Ashikaga Shogunate, he tried to go up, and went west on the Hokuriku route from Echigo to expand his power to Etchu, Noto, and Kaga, but died at the age of 48 at the age of 48.
