★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 古来から修験者の霊場とされてきた閼伽井池の畔の祠のなかにお不動さんが鎮座されている。唐から帰国した空海が閼伽井池で二十一日間の行を行い、高野山を開こうとしたが、火災、疫病に見舞われ、再びこの地で行をしてから、石造りのお不動さんを祀り、笠山荒神を立里に勧進し、ようやく高野山を開山することができたそうだ。
因みに閼伽は、仏教で仏前に供される水のことで、サンスクリット語の「価値ある」を意味するarghyaの音訳。ラテン語のaqua(「水」)とは語源の関連性がないそうで、似て非なるものらしい。
Fudo-san is enshrined in a shrine on the shore of Akai Pond, which has been regarded as a sacred place for Shugendo since ancient times. Kukai, who returned from Tang, went to Akai Pond for 21 days and tried to open Mt. Koya, but after being hit by a fire and a plague, he went to this place again and then made a stone Fudo-san. It is said that he was able to finally open Mt. Koya by enshrining and encouraging Kasayama Aragami to Tachisato.
By the way, 閼 伽 is a transliteration of arghya, which means "valuable" in Sanskrit, which means water provided in front of Buddhism in Buddhism. It seems that the Latin word aqua ("water") has no etymology, and it seems to be similar and different.

小さいながらもお手入れされていて、歴史のあるお不動さんです。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 今もきれいな水が湧いています。近くに初瀬山や巻向山、三輪山などの聖地があり、そうした神域の一部だったのだと思います。神々や聖人が集まりやすい場所だったということでしょう。
