[Spot name] Karako Kagi Remains Historical Park [Date and time of visit] October 2021 [Experience] The parking lot was open until 17:00, but it was already closed because I visited late. Also, the park itself was closed after 17:00, but there were quite a lot of people on the side facing the wide road, so I took a quick tour. I couldn't see it very well, but it was interesting because the park with abundant nature was packed with many historical spots.

It's a large park, enough for kids to run around. There are few historic sites that can be seen.

I think this is a great park. Very attractive. The AR app is a little subtle, but it's fun and educational. Feel the ancient romance. wide! Really wide! I want to start running! I want to run and lie down on the grass! I feel like Yayoi people! Which do you like better, Jomon pottery or Yayoi pottery? Hmm ? There is no doubt that both will be exciting ?. No, you might want to scream "Yayoi"?

A small park called Heijokyo. Even though it is small, Heijokyo is vast, so it was too spacious to compare with, and many kites were flying in the blue sky. Reproduced waterways and explanatory signs, There is also an exhibition room for the remains, which is fun.

It is a cheap historic park that was forcibly maintained along the dusty national road on the outskirts of the city. However! Don't underestimate. It seems that the fact that this place is a very important archaeological site that can be said to be the origin and origin of the nation called Japan has become definite among researchers at universities and institutions. Large-scale temples and moated settlements, workshops for dotaku and tools, earthenware, magatama and stone tools that are thought to have been collected from each region, etc., can be interpreted as the capital of the Yayoi period. But the more important point is that the groups who lived here moved to Makimuku and advanced to the Kofun period. Himiko was born in Tawaramoto, became a queen around Miwa Somen, and was buried in the first front-back circle burial mound, Hashihaka Kofun.

The excavation of the Karako Pond along with the construction of National Highway No. 24 has led to the excavation of the historic site of the Karako and Kagi Remains, which is considered to be the standard archaeological site of the Yayoi period from the end of the Jomon period to the beginning of the Kofun period. It is a park created in the central area. It is a park that was opened free of charge for local events that were created together with the roadside station in 2018, but there are restrictions such as parking lots and facility usage time. (9: 00-17: 00) On the day of the tour, the more dogs there are, the more the park becomes a normal park, but you can experience the moated settlements such as the remains exhibition information center, multiple moated settlements, and building plazas, but it covers 10 hectares (designated area of national historic sites). Since it is only a part of the vast remains, it is not as good as the compact Hirazuka Kawazoe Ruins in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Recommended (1): Reproduction of pine trees and treasure hunting by AR It is available in 5 languages and can be downloaded for free from Google Play or the App Store. You can also rent an iPad at the information center by showing your ID. Separate frame recommended: Museums nearby ① Karako Kagi Archeology Museum (It's about 25 minutes on foot in a place you can't miss) The car is easier to access than the busy R24 from the historic park parking lot on the east side instead of the roadside station. (2) Museum attached to Nara Prefectural Kashihara Archaeological Institute (Although it is often closed, many items excavated from this site are also exhibited) It is a highly recommended spot that can be reached within an hour even if you use Kintetsu Iwami Station on foot.

The site doesn’t really live up to its historical significance. If it’s on the way to somewhere, maybe stop, but as a primary destination you could give it a pass. Unless, of course, you’re into archeology/anthropology, but even then it is pretty underwhelming. On the plus side: few other people and a huge open space for a toddler to run around without worry.
