傘谷をはさんで、向き合う二つの坂をいう。改撰江戸志という書物によると、傘谷は、金助町(旧町名)の北の方にあって、傘づくりの職人が多く住んでいた窪地である。それで傘谷、傘坂の名がついた。
金助町に生まれた歌人・岡麓(おかふもと)は、大正12年の大震災で家が焼け、その焼け跡で、
"あさはかに 家居(いえい)移しし 悔心(くいごころ) このやけあとに 立ちて嘆(なげ)かゆ。"とよんだ。

Two slopes facing each other across Kasaya. Umbrella Valley is a depression in the north of Kinsuke Town (former town name), where many umbrella-making craftsmen lived, according to a book called Revised Edoshi. That's why it got the name of Kasaya and Kasazaka.
The poet Fumoto Oka, who was born in Kinsuke-cho, had his house burned in the Great Earthquake of 1918, and the burnt remains.
He said, "Asaha crab moved to his house and regretted. Standing after this burn and mourning."
