★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 塩の道の沿道には数多くの寺院や小堂、神社があって、さらにいたるところに石仏群や野仏が置かれているのを目撃してきました。まさに千国街道は「祈りの道」です。
飯田集落にも、あちらこちらに馬頭観音や庚申塔、石仏・石塔が立てられています。なかでも、北原の庚申塚にも、ざっと見渡して80基以上の石塔・石仏が集められています。
それにしても、白馬村に石仏・石塔の数が多いのは、古くからの各住戸ごとに石仏や石塔をつくって奉納する習わしがあったからでしょう。奉納は村落の大きな祭事や災害、冠婚葬祭のさいとか、あるいは古びた石仏が取り換えられたりという形でおこなわれ、家門子孫や村の息災繁栄への願いが込められていたのでしょう。
白馬小谷方面には、三州街道（伊那街道）を通って千国街道をたどって、高度な技能で有名な高遠石工たちも時季に合わせて訪れ、石仏づくりに貢献したと伝えられています。

In the Iida village, Hayagriva, Koshinto, and stone Buddha statues and stone towers are set up here and there. Among them, more than 80 stone pagoda and stone Buddha statues are gathered in Koshinzuka in Kitahara.
Even so, the reason why there are many stone Buddhas and stone pagoda in Hakuba village is probably because there was a tradition of making stone Buddhas and stone pagoda for each dwelling unit from ancient times. The dedication was carried out in the form of large festivals and disasters in the village, ceremonial occasions, or the replacement of old stone Buddha, and probably contained wishes for the prosperity of the family's descendants and the village's breathing disaster.
In the direction of Hakuba Otari, following the Senkoku Highway through the Sanshu Highway (Ina Highway), Takato masons, who are famous for their advanced skills, also visited according to the season and are said to have contributed to the making of stone Buddha statues.
