江川太郎左衛門英龍は幕末の天才。砲台や大砲作りだけでなく、安政の津波で被災したプチャーチンのディアナ号の代船造りまで背負い込んだため過労で亡くなるが、長生きしていれば、日本の歴史は変わっていたかもしれない。勘定奉行就任直前の死であった。
英龍が長生きしていれば、明治維新があんなことにならなかっただろうし、各地の城も破壊されず、廃仏毀釈もなかっただろう。うまく西洋文明を取り入れながら日本文化を大事にし活かしていただろう。
