About Kachua
We make original items using a traditional Indian technique of printing on textiles, called “block print”. In this method we print patterns on fabrics by using a wooden block - to which color is added - and then used to print by hand.
We especially love to use the technique of “Dabu print-mud resist dye” with an Indigo and Kassis dye. It is a similar technique to batik.
We use Dabu for resist printing. The Dabu is a mud-resist paste made from rich earth, mixed with fine wheat flour, tree gum, lime and water. We mix these ingredients and then filter them out to get the paste for printing. After covering the wooden block with Dabu, artisans begin repeatedly starting designated areas to “resist” the dye.
