Jogashima - Miura

Jogashima is located at the southernmost tip of the Miura Peninsula. There are many attractions such as a lighthouse and a lawn plaza on the rocky coast, which are full of nature. Jogashima is a lonely tourist destination, but it is fun to explore the whole area leisurely. There aren't many shops that are open on weekdays, but Misaki is close by, so it's a good idea to bring your lunch and eat in the large lawn park.

Prefectural Jogashima Park spreads out in the eastern half, and it is an island with a long and narrow rhombus shape in the east and west with a width of about 1.8 km from east to west and a width of about 0.6 km from north to south. There are four capes: Abogasaki on the east side, Nagatsurosozaki on the west side, Akabanezaki, which is famous for the Uma-no-seidomon on the south side, and Yugasaki on the north side. As a tourist attraction, the "Uma-no-seidomon", a sea-eroded rock that has been eroded by wind and waves and has become a natural monument, is famous. , Himeu, and Kurosagi are habitats and are designated as a natural monument of the prefecture. Also, on Jogashima, you can see the Miura Group and the Kanto Loam Formation, which are mainly composed of alternating layers of pyroclastic sandstone and mudstone deposited on the seabed about 10 to 4 million years ago, so it is recommended for those who are interested in the strata.
