Beautiful shrine with a surprisingly tall statue. For ¥250 you can take a tour up into the statue. It has little shrines to many God's with descriptions in Japanese. There are windows that let you view out at many different levels. The climb is up some pretty steep stairs with many places to fall, so I wouldn't recommend it to small small children or others who are clumsy. Peaceful, interesting, and impressive.

parking lots are closed very early (around 4 pm) but the statue and all the shops are very lovely

Great location to start your walk about- view the giant Goddess of Mercy Statue then on to the shrine. Walking further past the souvenir shops would bring u to a route through the park/forestry reserve area with some stunning views of a suspension bridge. Quite a walk so do go prepped with walking shoes n light gear with a light jacket just in case the wind acts up. After approximately 45-60 mins into the walk there is a turn off on the left which is signed (unfortunately only in Kanji) which denotes the route down a series of broad steps to the caves. There’s refreshments n a short tour at the caves if one is interested. In front of the caves is a bus stop which one can catch the direct bus back to Takasaki Station, near to the stop is a nice Cafe situated opposite across the road from the bus stop. It serves excellent tea/coffee n cakes- a nice finishing touch to a great walk about. The owner is very friendly, welcoming and very helpful. They also do great dinners but we did not have the benefit of time to experience it. It was a wonderful day trip to experience Takasaki, Gunma.

Visited this Buddhist shrine & towering statue which you can climb the stairs inside. You can park at a lot before the location however be prepared to pay ¥500 which you can redeem back when you purchase something. I believe a free parking lot is located up the hill and to the left once you pass underneath the red bridge.

Beautiful scenery and worth the hike! Even though it was a holiday, the place isn't crowded. Tip: The place looks amazing during the golden hour in the afternoon. Details- May 4th, 4-6:00 PM

The statue itself was absolutely beautiful. I would suggest coming to this area in the beginning of August as they have a lantern festival there. Unfortunately due to covid we weren't able to enter the statue, but we wandered around the beautiful area, where there were many little shops and attractions. Make sure to get here before 6 pm during lockdowns as they close quite early.

Nice to see it from afar, looks nice, but I would put something else on the list if you want to visit just here. As in, if you plan to come here to see this, add something else in the area as this was a bit more underwhelming than I had originally anticipated. If you smoke, there is an ashtray at the base of the statue Infront, something you won't really see at places like this. PS.(The guy who writes your Goshuin is one of those that has a bad attitude)

We've visited the giant statue of the Goddess of Mercy located in ishihara cho Takasaki shi Gunma during the Sakura season. The place is also good for walking and you can find lots of souvenir stores along ; you can view also the entire city of Takasaki.
