★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 万葉集に、「天離る鄙の長道ゆ恋ひ来れば明石の門より大和島見ゆ」の柿本人麻呂の歌があり、その「大和島」がこれだという。歌碑も建てられている。「遥かに遠い田舎から、都を恋しく思いながら帰ってくると、明石海峡から大和島が見える」くらいの意味だ。
この下の句は「大和（奈良）の島＝生駒・葛城の山々」と解するほうが自然ではないのか。そもそも明石海峡からこの「大和島」がよく見えるものなのか。近くには、もっと淡路島の突端に近い「絵島」もあるのに、なぜこれか。と考えると、いろいろ無理がある、というかこじつけに過ぎないように思う。
「島」とはいうが陸続きなので、そばまでは行ける。海水が出入りする洞穴が見え、その上方には歩けるように足場があるようだが、危険そうなのでアプローチはおすすめできない。
In the Manyoshu, there is a song by Kaki Honjin Maro, who says "If you come to the remote Nagano-Yu Koi Hirai, you will see Miyu Yamatojima from Akashi Gate." A monument is also built. "If you return from a far distant countryside while missing the capital, you can see Yamatojima from the Akashi Strait."
Isn't it more natural to interpret the phrase below as "Island in Yamato (Nara) = Ikoma / Katsuragi Mountains". Is this "Yamato Island" clearly visible from the Akashi Strait in the first place? There is also "Eshima", which is closer to the tip of Awaji Island, but why is this? When I think of it, I think that it is just impossible to do various things.
Although it is an "island", it is connected to the land, so you can go to the side. It looks like a cave where seawater enters and exits, and there seems to be scaffolding above it, but I don't recommend approach because it seems dangerous.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ なんか、コンクリートのブロックに固められ、資材置き場みたいになっていて、なんだろという感じです。普通にすれば、それだけで素晴らしいのに、ここも失われていく遺産ですね。
Somehow, it's hardened in a concrete block and it looks like a material storage area. Normally, it's a wonderful heritage, but it's also lost here.

明石の高台に居を構えた柿本人麻呂が、朝夕この島を眺めるのを楽しみにしていたとも言われており、以下の和歌を残しています。
