普通は川の流れで削られるのと思うけど、不思議です? 誰か教えて。

豊川を支流とする宇連川の一部で湯谷温泉の上と下流約五キロの範囲を言う。
川底は板を敷き詰めたようになっており、底が平で浅い見渡す限りが天然プールのような場所もあったり、小さな滝や滝つぼ、天然の飛び込み台の岩場もあり、変化に富んだ地形で川の流れは緩やか。
巨大な天然レジャー施設のような特殊な場所。
上流に見られるお風呂のような穴はポットホールと呼ばれる。
平らな川底の成り立ち
川底も含めてこの川の周辺一帯は流紋岩質凝灰岩に覆われていて、
川は一帯を覆う凝灰岩が侵食が進んで出来たもの。
今の川底が地表近くの凝灰岩よりもずっと硬く溶結した凝灰岩層の面であるため侵食が鈍化し、川底が平らな面となっているとされている。
この辺りの一帯の分厚い溶結凝灰岩は、
1400万年前前後に鳳来湖を中心とした大規模なカルデラ噴火の火砕流によって形成されたものと考えられています。

The formation of a flat riverbed
The area around this river, including the riverbed, is covered with rhyolite tuff.
The river is formed by erosion of the tuff that covers the area.
It is said that the current riverbed is a surface of the tuff layer that is much harder and welded than the tuff near the surface of the earth, so erosion slows down and the riverbed becomes a flat surface.

It is believed to have been formed by the pyroclastic flow of a large-scale caldera eruption centered on Lake Horai around 14 million years ago.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 湯谷温泉付近の宇連川は、川底に板を敷きつめたような見事な“板敷川”を形成しています。
湯谷温泉は、まさに“ひなびた山のいで湯”といった雰囲気でよく訪れます。飯田線の踏切近くにある“田舎茶屋まつや”の五平餅もお勧めで、私は必ず戴いています。
最後の2枚の写真は、旅館“ひさご”の風呂から見た板敷川です。
The Ure River near Yuya Onsen forms a splendid "Itashiki River" that looks like a board laid on the bottom of the river.
Yuya Onsen is often visited in an atmosphere that is exactly like "Hinabiyama no Ideyu". I also recommend the Gohei mochi from "Country Chaya Matsuya" near the railroad crossing on the Iida line, and I always get it.
The last two photos are the Itashiki River seen from the bath of the inn "Hisago".
