★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is a serene temple built on a lake and ideal for contemplation. If you get through the madness of the Ghibli museum come here afterwards and find some peace. There is something picture postcard perfect about the view from a park bench by the lake. It's a popular spot and there's even a vending machine here, but then again there are vending machines all over Tokyo. Nice spot to devote half an hour out of a mad touristic rush.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ If you're in the park, stop by this atmospheric shrine. Bentenzai is originally a Chinese deity of fortune associated with music and water, so her shrines are found near ponds and springs. Nearby is a spring which is the source of the water for the pond and the Kanda River, which runs right through the middle of Tokyo to the bay. The shrine closes at 5, though. Also, an urban legend says that couples who ride the boats in the pond soon break up because the goddess gets jealous!
