1776年築の建物だが、今でもしっかりした、堂々の古民家である。
主屋、土蔵、塀などが国の重要文化財だという。
今も子孫の方が住んでおられるのだろう。

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 奈良街道に面した町家で、裏は了意川に接し、柏原船の積荷をそのまま荷揚げできる造りになっていた。
元は大坂伏見呉服町で「大文字屋」と称した有力商人で、1636年に柏原に移り住んで柏原船の運航や肥料商を営なんだ。
1766年から屋敷の大改築が行われ、その屋敷がそれ以後大きな改築を行われず今日まで遺されている。
この時の普請関係の文書も多数遺され、建設時期が明確に示されるとともに当時の生活・経済状況も窺い知る 事が出来る貴重な資料として、文書類も合わせて重要文化財に指定されている。
