Visited super early in the middle of January during the heavy snowfall - was absolutely stunning. Only me and beautiful scenery.

A lovely local tourist attraction- very few Westerners- quiet, peaceful, cold in late May like 10C so dress accordingly- there is a seat and toilets near the top but no waterfall so we turned around before the top shrine

This is probably one of the most spectator tourist spot in Japan. It's a little bit far but I would really recommend to those who has chance to travel to Nagano prefecture.

The tallest and highest cedar trees i have ever seen. This spot is famous as the energy vortex for japanese people! Amazing place! Needles to say, if you are going to Nagano city, you must visit Togakushi national park Just 50 minutes bus ride from Nagano station bring you the great sernery.

We stopped by on the way from Hakuba to Shiga Kogen. There is (limited but usually enough) free parking and a bathroom on site. The walk to the shrine is scenic, serene, and along a fairly slippery snow covered path if you go during the winter. Wearing boots or some sort of shoes with good traction is essential. Some people even had snow shoes, hiking sticks, and crampons but it is very manageable with a good pair of boots. It’s a 20 minute walk to the shrine from the parking area. There is some very interesting history one can read online. There are said to be about 300 Japanese cedar trees planted in the 17th century lining the path along the upper shrine.

A very nice snowshoeing activity about 45 min from Nagano city by car. Not too crowded, but not too devoid of people. Very pleasant and serene experience. Parking is right next to the trailhead and there’s also a soba restaurant near the mouth of the entrance.

Beautiful cedar approach to Okusha shrine! I couldn't get to Okusha because of the deep snow though. (Feb. 2022)

The place was divine! I highly recommend visiting in winter on a good weather day. Buses don't have access in winter so you would have to walk over 30 minutes from Togakushi chuusha bus stop. Then another 20 minutes from the Tori gate. It's a very scenic walk.
