E	E.Yap on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Definitely a must ride from Kameoka to Saga-Arashiyama. The boat journey is between 1.5 to 2 hrs depending on the season. Upon arriving, you would need to write some information on a slip of ticket before proceeding to the counter to purchase your ticket. The ticket consist of simple information such as name, country and # tickets required. After purchasing the tickets, you would need to wait in the area. I learnt that they would wait for the boat to be filled before allowing all passengers to go on board. When there are enough people, they would call your number and ask you to proceed to the river. Even though the website information shows an hourly interval of boat departure, it does not seem to be following that timetable. During the journey, the boatmen will point out interesting stone structures and have good interactions with the passengers. However they speak mainly in Japanese. Still they are very funny with their actions, making the ride enjoyable! At certain part of the journey where rapids are faster, the boatmen will warm beforehand and ask you to pull the plastic cover to protect yourselves. Along the way, there were also many people doing rafting too! Another option if you are more adventurous! Towards the end of the journey, a motor boat selling food will come by and you can purchase food or drinks from them. Within the next 5 mins after the motor boat comes, you would have reached Arashiyama.
A	Aaron Williams on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The Hozugawa River Boat Ride was amazing. We went on 29 Nov 2019. We were worried about the weather, or if this was a summer activity, but it was great. The people sitting at the edges got small splashes but not much. We arrived around 10:30am on a Friday and I was a little worried because it seemed like a large crowd in the ticketing office. But we were called to board after only about 15 minutes of waiting. The ride was about 2 hours, the scenery was breathtaking, and there were a few very mild rapids (more like swift moving water, not actual rapids when we went) that added some fun and excitement to the trip. We speak no Japanese, and even though we couldn't understand the commentary we still had a great time and the guides were entertaining in ways that that carried through to us even though there was a language barrier. So far this has been the best part of our trip to Japan.
P	Pno Ens on Google ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ We skipped the Sagano-Arashiyama Sightseeing trains ? because the tickets were all sold out for most of the day. Instead, we took the regular train at the third of the price and got to the Komeoka. Took a short little ride of taxi, (you could easily walked too) reached the station for docking. The cost for boat ride was 4100¥. I was a bit shocked ? . But realized it was totally worth it by the four big men rowing and sticking the boat for almost 90 minutes of the boat cruise! There were only a few mild rapids, it was definitely not remotely closed to a typical rafting trip! So don’t expect too much of excitement!

Please attention for ripples water, it get wet caution, especially for the passenger who sit on the front of boat. On the way of rafting you may see some animals like birds and stork. Hazugawa river cruise starts in Kameoka in west Kyoto and finish in arashimaya area, near togetsukyo bridge.

"

Because of limited bus while coming back to boat station please check the train, otherwise there is a 40 minutes walk to boat ride place.

The cruises utilize traditional style, flat bottomed boats piloted by boatmen who guide the craft with oars and bamboo poles. The boats take about two hours to leisurely make their way down the river and are a relaxing way to see the natural scenery of the largely undeveloped ravine. The river cruises are often combined with a ride on the Sagano Scenic Railway. Cruises are offered year round, but are particularly popular from mid November to early December when the leaves change color. The boats are heated in winter and operate during light rain (they will be covered in a plastic tent), but service is canceled in case of heavy rain or large changes in the water level. The Hozugawa River was originally employed to transport logs that were used to build many of Kyoto and Osaka's famous temples and castles. During the Edo Period the river was cleared of obstructions so that boats carrying grain, firewood and other cargo could safely navigate it. Trains and trucks eventually made river transport obsolete, and operations ceased after several hundred years of use. However, the boats were brought back and eventually became popular as a sightseeing attraction.
