Taikoji is an old temple that has a tradition of being founded by a man named Sage Sennin in the first year of Tenpyo Houji (757). It seems that it was the Jingu-ji Temple of Ooka Shrine, which enshrines the mountain god of Ookayama. Both the temple and the shrine have been lowered to the foot of the mountain in recent years, and this is the site.
The old Ookaji garden was built during the Muromachi period and seems to have been rebuilt during the Edo period. A nationally designated scenic garden that is historically valuable.
This is very difficult to understand and difficult to reach.
First of all, there are almost no information boards as the "former Taikoji Garden". Therefore, in the car navigation system and Google Maps, proceed with the destination of "Sonoda Women's University Ooka Green Campus". This is a dead end, but on the right side of the front of the Green Campus site, there is a road that winds down behind the Green Campus building. When you go down the zigzag road, you will see a sign that says "No entry due to private land", but there is another road on the left, and a sign that says "Kokumeisho Former Ookaji Garden about 300m". The asphalt pavement runs out on that road. If you go further along the dirt road, you will finally reach the site of the former Taikoji Temple and the site of the former Ooka Shrine.
A stone-framed mossy garden and a guide board in front of it. Is the wide flat land on the left the place where the main hall and Yakushido were? It seems that the site of the Ooka Shrine was built on the right side, and a stone wall of Nozomi was built around it, and flat areas were spread out here and there, and there were several temples and children's temples. It must have been a mighty mountain esoteric Buddhist temple from the Middle Ages to the early modern period.
