駅を出て南側約100m程歩くと、宇野バスの林野駅前バス停があって湯郷温泉・岡山市方面に連絡できますが、便数がかなり少なくなってますので要注意です。
駅本屋内に旅行代理店らしき場所があって、時間によっては乗車券などの窓口販売もあるようですが、2020年10月10日午後訪れた際には何も開いてなかったです。
今でこそ鄙びたローカル駅ですが、往時は湯郷温泉の最寄り駅として雰囲気のある駅の構えでした。
