★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 高橋定右衛門は、野中新田与右衛門組の名主でしたが、御門訴（ごもんそ）事件のリーダーの一人として品川県により逮捕・投獄され、厳しい尋問を受けて獄中で亡くなりました。
御門訴事件は、明治２年（１８６９年）から明治３年（１８７０年）にかけて、武蔵野新田十二か村の農民が、品川県庁の門前で社倉制度（凶作に備えた備蓄制度）改悪に対して訴願を行って弾圧された事件です。
近世の封建社会から近代社会への移行期に起きた民衆運動の一つとして知られ、その後、明治１０年代におこる自由民権運動の先駆けとなる社会的運動として評価されています。
小平市史跡に指定されています。
