Small but cute temple, probably better to see on a sunny day. Take care not to get lost in the cemetery surrounding it.

Incredible temple complex. Found out about this place after two years living in Japan. You’ll think for a moment that you’re in Kyoto. Check it out if you’re around??

Walked through the cemetery to get here. Very peaceful. Large black crows, and exotic looking cats were all throughout the property.

I went to see him because he likes cats. But when I was eating with a cat, I got angry. He is the chief priest. Because he likes cats. Otherwise, cats can't live here.

It's a really peaceful place. You can definitely relax yourself in here. There's a big buddha statue near the temple. And I found a stray cat! omg my first time to touch a japanese cat.

Nikko, Meiji Jingu, Gokokuji all great places to visit and I hit all three and more this trip (next up Kamakura) Gokokuji was one of my favorites because you could go in and just hang out. Plenty of places outside the temple be but on temple grounds. It is what I like about Japan, these small Oasis of peace and quiet in the middle of a massive metropolis.

Amazing place! Located almost right next to Ikebukuro station, this temple is really beautiful. There are some stalls at the base and then you walk up stairs and it's so nice. We spent a while here just because everything is so beautiful and peaceful. There are lots of cats here too.

Not a bad place to take in some history and culture in urban Tokyo. About 15-20 minute walk from Ikebukuro, or use the subway to get out right infront of it. It’s not as magnificent as places like Sensōji or places in Kamakura, but it’s a nice little “power spot” as they say here.
