It is a spot where you can overlook the sea of ​​Izu. If you look at the sea slowly, your heart will become lighter. In the middle of the observatory, there is a garment rock. This is the place where the tragic love was set 900 years ago.

About 4000 years ago, the lava flow of Mt. Omuro flowed into the sea, creating a coastline around this area. From the observatory of Une, you can overlook the lava that has flowed into the Futo coast and the Jogasaki coast. On the nearby coast, you can see the stones cut out for the construction of Edo Castle, and there is also a "Sanjoiwa" where the sad story of Chizuru Maru, born between Minamoto no Yoritomo and Ito Sukechika's third daughter Yaehime, remains. .. Jogasaki coast created by the eruption of Mt. Omuro Jogasaki coast formed by the eruption of Omuroyama volcano The lava of Mt. Omuro, which erupted about 4000 years ago, flowed into Sagami Nada to reclaim the sea and create new land. The tip of this lava is the Jogasaki coast. The front edge of the lava is the coast called “Jogasaki”. --- On the opposite bank, there is a flat place out of the sea. It is a plateau created by lava flowing from Mt. Omuro. Lava from Mt. Omuro has reached here in Une. In other words, the opposite bank and its surroundings were the sea until about 4000 years ago. The steep cliff in the middle The land of lava is much older than this, and the lava of Mt. Omuro flowed around here. On the opposite shore, there is a flat area jutting out into the ocean. This is a plateau formed by the lava flows from Omuroyama volcano. And lava from Omuroyama volcano even reached here in Une as well. This means that the opposite shore and this area were in the ocean approximately 4,000 years ago. The precipitous cliff in between is a land formed from lava long before, and remained untouched by the lava flow from Omuroyama volcano. Columnar Joints: The Art of Lava If you look at the surrounding rocks, you can see many cracks shaped like pillars. increase. This crevice is a "pillar" created by the volume shrinking as the lava cools. It is a joint. In columnar joints, "pillars" grow in order from the part where the lava has cooled. I will go. From the columnar joints that extend up and down seen around Une, it melts. You can see that the rock has been cooled from above and below. In the surrounding rocky area, there are numerous crevices shaped like col-umns. These crevices are an example of the phenomenon of "columnar joints" that occurs when lava cools and its volume decreases. The columnar joints extending vertically in the Une area tell us that the lava in this area cooled in a vertical direction.

I got off at Futo station and took a walk toward the Jogasaki coast. Lightly cloudy Sunday in winter. It is a place where you can reach the sea by going down the road from the station. I was able to clearly see the rocks of columnar joints.
