★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Ruby Room is amazing. They make good drinks and dont skimp on the alcohol like some bars. Drink menu has English. Great way to take in a local show and feel... Well, like a local, without feeling overwhelmed or out of place. Foreigners do visit here but mostly Japanese so you get a real experience without standing out. Some Japanese bars panic when foreigners enter but you never feel unwanted here.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A plethora of different licte music acts and while they are generally more on the amateur/beginner end of the spectrum, the cheap entrance and cozy atmosphere in the club makes it a perfect spot to bring a couple of friends. Has an awesome couch lounge

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Definitely one of my most favorite venues in Tokyo. Good music always, cozy and funky vibes, friendly staff. It locates on a back street of Shibuya and reminds me of Tokyo-ness. It's a good place to know when you're with friends in Shibuya, so close from major intersection.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The music is good, the place a bit small but nice, however it is possible to smoke inside and many guests do, and a lot of cigarettes... I came back with all my clothes smelling. I can barely imagine the condition of my lungs inside. 1600 yen for entrance and first drink for one Friday night dancing with colleagues.... There were some other groups of people (boys and girls) and some dancing, but no more with the smoke.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Famous Tokyo indie rock live scene pub. Most live Rock events will start at around 20:00 and finish by 23:00, then there are various night events with DJs. Entry is usually around 1,500 yen, and drinks are around 500～700 yen, that is reasonable for Tokyo. Open mic night on Tuesdays. Mostly local bands, Japanese and foreigners. Small venue, but friendly staff and atmosphere. Depends on the event, but it can be smoky a lot.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This place is so fun. We stumbled into what seemed like Jimi Hendrix appreciation night but there was a live band (which was fantastically fun) and a DJ afterwards playing some Bops via CD— it seemed like you could hand a CD over to him and he’d play it !
