仙台市中心部の錦町公園辺りに有った定禅寺（現在の定禅寺通りの名の由来となった伊達氏の祈願寺、寺格は最高格の一門格）に伊達政宗公が青葉城の鬼門（艮：北東）除けとして定禅寺第５世融誉（ゆうよ）法印に命じ、慶長七年（西暦１６０２年）に大聖歓喜天を勧請して現在のＮＨＫ仙台放送局付近に建立した歓喜院をその起原とする。
毎年八月十三日には、万灯会を開催。
A temple of the Shingon Buddhist Chiyama school. The official name is Kushikatsu Seitendo Bettoma Amsan Daisho-ji Temple.
Date Masamune is Aoba at the Jozenji Temple (the prayer temple of Mr. Date, which is the origin of the name of the current Jozenji Street, the temple rank is the highest grade) near Nishikicho Park in the center of Sendai City. Ordered the 5th Yuyo Hosho of the Jozenji Temple to avoid the castle's demon gate (northeast), solicited Daisho Kangiten in the 7th year of Keicho (1602 AD) near the current NHK Sendai Broadcasting Station. The origin is the erected Kikiin.
Every year on August 13th, we hold a Mantokai.
