There were a lot of nice vessels. There are a lot of them under the shelves, so it's fun to explore them like a treasure hunt.

I handle many small pottery. Ceramic art experience etc can not be done, but it is fun to talk with the shopkeeper variously. Deep indigo is said to be popular.

At the Hida Takayama pottery, which was a revival of Koitoyaki, which was born in the early Edo period, it makes a variety of pottery from artistic to daily necessities. The workshop is located on a hill about 20 minutes on foot from Takayama Station. Iraho glaze In particular, the deep blue color of Ao Iraho is stunningly beautiful. Also, the price range is surprisingly cheap. You can buy the work at a souvenir shop in Takayama, but the artist and the landlady will give you a detailed explanation of the work, so if you are particular about vessels, you may want to buy it here.

beautiful shop and super friendly lady, we purchased 2 cups and after 3 years they are still as colourful as when we first used them, and in fact are smoother and shinier now :)

So glad I walked in! I received a friendly welcome at this historic pottery and felt honoured to meet the potter, learning he was the 16th generation of his family making pottery here. Lovely pieces that I bought on credit card, which were carefully packaged for my flight home.

I have visited This pottery shop twice. Once in 2011 and again in 2019. It's an amazing shop with nicest owners who are able to tell you all about their history and craft. I've bought two tea sets from here, the most recent was for myself and it's simply beautiful. Highly recommend you buy a souvenir here and take the effort to get it home, even if flying internationally.
