★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 「閑(しずか)さや 巖(いわ)にしみ入る 蝉の声」は、松尾芭蕉が元禄2年5月27日(1689年7月13日)に出羽国(でわのくに：現在の山形市)の立石寺(りっしゃくじ)に参詣した際に詠んだ発句で、「おくの細道」(旅行記)の中でも秀吟(しゅうぎん：優れた詩歌)の詩として知られています❗
芭蕉は山寺の山上に立ち、眼下にうねる(曲がりくねる)緑の大地を見渡した。頭上には梅雨明けの大空が果てしなくつづいている。そこで、蝉の声を聞いているうちに、あたりの美しい景色はただひっそりと静まりかえって、芭蕉は広大な天地に満ちる「閑さ」を感じ取った。
「閑さ」は蝉の鳴きしきる現実の世界とは別の次元の心の中の「閑さ」を表現しているのだそうです。
現実の静けさではなく、現実のかなたに広がる天地の、言い換えると宇宙の「閑さ」であり、梅雨の雲☁️が吹き払われて夏の青空が広がるように、突然、蝉の鳴きしきる現実の向こうから、深閑(しんかん：物音もせず静まりかえっているさま)と静まりかえる宇宙が姿を現した、といった意味なのだそうです。
俳句というものは、難しく、奥の深いものなんですね～?
ちなみに、芭蕉が詠んだ句の蝉は、日本・台湾・中国・朝鮮半島に分布する「ニイニイゼミ」という小型のセミを指しているそうで、鳴き声はウィキペディアで聞くことが出来ます❗(^-^ゞ
 "The voice of a cicada penetrating into Shiwa Saya" is based on Basho Matsuo's Dewakuni (Dewanokuni: present Yamagata City) on May 27, Genroku (July 13, 1689). It is a phrase that I wrote when I visited Rishishuji Temple, and it is known as a poem by Shugin (excellent poetry) in "Okuno Hosoido" (journey) ❗
Basho stood on the mountain top of the mountain temple and overlooked the winding green land. Above the head, the sky after the rainy season continues endlessly. Then, while listening to the voice of the cicada, the beautiful scenery around it quietly quieted down, and Basho felt the "quietness" of the vast universe.
It is said that "quietness" expresses "quietness" in the heart of a different dimension from the real world where cicadas squeal.
It is not the tranquility of reality, but the heaven and earth that spread beyond the reality, in other words, the "quietness" of the universe. It is said that from the other side, a quiet universe emerges from the deep space (Shinkan: quieting without noise).
Haiku is a difficult and profound thing~ ?
By the way, it seems that Basho's cicadas in the phrase refer to small cicadas called ``Nii Niizumi'' distributed in Japan, Taiwan, China, and the Korean Peninsula, and the call can be heard on Wikipedia ❗ (^-^ゞ

句の着想を得た場所として、ここに塚を立てたのがせみ塚です。
山門から約３５０段くらいです。

As a place to get the idea of the poem, the place where the mound was set up is Semizuka.
It is about 350 steps from the mountain gate.

鎌倉時代に作られたと言われる山門から約15分歩いたところに【せみ塚】があります。
そこから約5分の位置に、嘉永元年(1848)再建された、けやき材の優美な仁王門が‥
左右に安置された仁王尊像は運慶のお弟子さん達の作と伝えられています。
せみ塚は、松尾芭蕉の句をしたためた短冊を納めた記念碑です。

芭蕉焼き団子、ずんだ餅、餅焼き煎餅、手打ち蕎麦、山寺饅頭、‥など、
喫茶店、お食事処、お土産処などわりと充実しています。
私は芋煮とか玉こんにゃくをいただきました。
芭蕉の遺墨や奥の細道の資料の展示がある山寺芭蕉記念館など。

Kizahashi-kai for tourist information.
Basho-yaki dumplings, zunda mochi, mochi-yaki rice crackers, handmade soba noodles, Yamadera buns, etc.
There are plenty of coffee shops, restaurants, souvenir shops, etc.
I had Imoni and Tama Konnyaku.
Yamadera Basho Memorial Hall, where you can see Basho's ink and materials on the back alley.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ 山寺駅から土産物屋の通りを歩いて約7分｡立派な入口(登山道)から階段を上り、根本中堂へ参ります。これもまた立派なお堂で仏様が祀られおります。ここで御朱印やおみくじなどを頂戴出来ます。
山寺(立石寺)は松尾芭蕉が訪れ、句を残した場所としても有名ですね。300年も前のことです｡
閑さや岩にしみ入る蝉の声
芭蕉と弟子の曽良の像が立っていてちょっとした写真スポットです｡
日吉神社や宝物殿、売店などを抜けると、いよいよ山門です｡ 入山料¥300
石段は全部で1015段 1段登る事に煩悩が消えると言われております。
登るのはかなり大変ですし、休日はかなり人でいっぱいになるでしょう。ゆっくりと景色を眺めつつ歩くのがいいですね。
せみ塚や仁王門を通り、1番上のゴールに奥の院があります。ここまでくるとかなりの達成感ですね。
ガイドブックなどでよく目にするものが、納経堂・開山堂です｡確かにかなり見晴らしが良いところです｡
About 7 minutes on foot from Yamadera Station along the street of the souvenir shop. Go up the stairs from the fine entrance (climbing path) and come to Nemoto Chudo. This is also a magnificent hall where the Buddha is enshrined. You can receive a red stamp or a fortune ticket here.
Yamadera (Tateishi Temple) is famous as a place where Matsuo Aoi visited and left a phrase. 300 years ago.

After passing Hiyoshi Shrine, the treasure hall, and the shop, it is finally the Sanmon. Entrance fee ¥ 300
It is said that the stone steps are 1015 steps in total and the annoyance disappears by climbing one step.
It ’s pretty hard to climb and it ’s going to be quite crowded on holidays. It is good to walk while slowly watching the scenery.
There is Oku-in Temple at the top goal through Semizuka and Niomon. It ’s quite a sense of accomplishment so far.
The things you often see in guidebooks are Nakyodo and Kaizan-do. Certainly they have a pretty good view.

I thought it was the place where Matsuo Basho's famous phrase, "Smearing into the quiet rocks," was written, but there was a place where the strips of the phrase were buried and a guide board.

Just be careful during the climb and going down during winter. Wore a travel crampon or bring hiking pole during winter. Steps can be very slippery and icy
