★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ED91形交流電気機関車は国内初の交流電化を目指し、仙山線陸前落合ー熊ヶ根間での交流電化試験のために製作された
ED91形は1･11･21号機の計3両が製作され、1号機が三菱電機、11号機が東芝、21号機が日立製作所で製造された
1970年に廃車になった後、1号機は解体された
21号機も新幹線総合車両センター内に保存されていたが、長年放置状態にあり、同地に保存されていた交流電気機関車4両と蒸気機関車3両と共に状態不良のため解体された
11号機のみ現存する
日本の交流電化の礎を築いた貴重な車両

The ED91 type AC electric locomotive was manufactured for the AC electrification test between Rikuzen Ochiai and Kumagane on the Senzan Line, aiming for the first AC electrification in Japan.
For the ED91 type, a total of three cars, Units 1, 11, and 21, were manufactured, with Unit 1 manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric, Unit 11 manufactured by Toshiba, and Unit 21 manufactured by Hitachi, Ltd.
Unit 1 was dismantled after it was scrapped in 1970
Unit 21 was also stored in the Shinkansen General Vehicle Center, but it was left unattended for many years and was dismantled due to poor condition along with 4 AC electric locomotives and 3 steam locomotives stored there.
Only Unit 11 still exists
A valuable vehicle that laid the foundation for AC electrification in Japan
