Quite a collection of the Bizen Osafune swords and detailed guides of how to make Japanese swords. Bizen Osafune may not be accepted as one of the best swords even in some Japanese videogames sold outside Japan. My guess for the reason is Bizen Osafune was the most widespread and produced Japanese swords. Swords were for the honour and protection. It is more like a car today. Samurai loved them for the quality.

Nice place to see craftsmen working in the sword arts and how it is done!! I do not recommend going near lunch time, as all of the craftsmen take lunch about the same time.

Great place to visit and learn about Japanese blade making. Bought a 120mm sushi knife while there. Top quality blade and it is razor sharp. They are located a bit off the beaten path but it is worth the time to go, especially if you visit on the day of live demonstrations.

My sword loving husband loved the whole experience. Even though I'm not that interested I also enjoyed seeing the different steps of the process and found it worth checking out if you are in the area.

Its a great place to see if your intersted in nihon to. The museum contains some important koto swords but is as small as the one in Tokyo. Great to meet masters on the subject, forging, saya, tsuka maki. rich souvenir shop. On Sunday special workshops where you can see the masters at work. There is also a very special nihonto/katana shop nearby . Ask at the museum . If its on your way its worth going but otherwise...

Very nice museum. English explanations available. Workshops show how a sword is made the 2nd Sunday of every month, at 11 am and 2 pm. Some crafting classes and maintenance of Japanese swords by appointment.

A really nice Japanese sword museum. Excellent displays with some English information >> more English about the history, production, etc would be welcome. Admission is only ¥300, which is extremely reasonable for this quality. Try to go on one of the monthly demonstration days and watch the craftsmen make actual swords. Parking is free. Access by public transportation is difficult (from JR Oku Sta, take a taxi).

One of the great master in sword making is still practicing there. It is a living museum and apprentices are usually practicing on certain days. The museum has a boutique where you could find unique handmade kitchen knifes. Osafune visit can be combined with a trip to Bizen, the capital of pottery making, both locations and both crafts depending on the same ingredient: unique quality of mud and crystal clear water.
